How to Take Care of Your Smartphone Battery: 10 Proven Tips

| Admin Shop

The lithium-ion battery is the weakest component of every smartphone. After 2–3 years of intensive use, its capacity drops by 20–30%. But by following simple rules, you can significantly extend its lifespan. Here are 10 proven tips.

10 Rules for a Healthy Battery

  1. Keep the charge level between 20% and 80%

This is the golden rule. Regularly charging to 100% and draining to 0% accelerates cell degradation. Modern phones have a "charging optimization" feature — turn it on!

  2. Don't charge your phone overnight

Although modern smartphones have protections, keeping the battery at 100% for 6–8 hours isn't optimal. If you must — use smart charging scheduling.

  3. Avoid fast charging daily

Fast charging (65W, 120W) generates more heat, which degrades the battery faster. Use it only when you're in a real hurry.

  4. Avoid extreme temperatures

Batteries don't like freezing cold (below 0°C/32°F) or heat (above 35°C/95°F). Don't leave your phone on the dashboard in summer!

  5. Remove the case when charging

Cases hinder heat dissipation. This is particularly important during wireless charging.

  1. Use original or certified chargers

Cheap chargers from unreliable sources can deliver unstable voltage, damaging the battery (and in extreme cases — can be dangerous).

  2. Turn off features you don't use

Bluetooth, NFC, location, Wi-Fi — if you're not using them, turn them off. Each one consumes battery in the background.

  3. Keep your software updated

Manufacturers regularly optimize power management. Updates can extend battery life by 10–15%.

  4. Limit widgets and background refresh

Every widget and background-refreshing app is an additional battery drain. Keep only those you actually need.

  5. Check battery health regularly

iOS: Settings → Battery → Battery Health. Android: Settings → Battery → Battery Health. If capacity drops below 80% — consider replacing the cell.

"A battery that retains 80% capacity after 3 years is a well-treated battery. Following these rules can extend battery life up to twice compared to a user who ignores them."
